GADA is currently carrying out a project of Sensitisation, Mobilisation and Capacity Building for Female Politicians/Candidates for Effective Participation in Party Nomination and General Election Campaign Processes in South West Nigeria.

The project is made possible by the joint donor fund provided by the European Union (EU), the British Council Department for International Development (DFID) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The objectives of the project include:

  • To strengthen the capacity of female candidates selected from six identified political parties in the South West on Gender, Electoral Competition and Media Accessing Skills
  • To engage the leadership of six political parties in the South West on issues of Women’s Political Participation and Internal Democracy
  • To promote issues – based politics by equipping women candidates in the South West with a women’s rights agenda

So far the preparation activity which involves visits to the officials of Six Political Parties namely; ACN, APGA, ANPP, PPA, PDP and LP has been completed. Owing to the non-visibility of some of the listed parties in some states, GADA is working with Fresh Democratic Party (FDP) in Lagos, Peoples’ Progressive Party (PPP) in Oyo, as well as CPN, DPA, NCP and CPP in Ogun state.
